Australia’s Big Tree Gin Distillery has launched a range of premium spirits with flavours featuring botanicals native to its country.
After an initial online launch, the lineup of three Big Tree Gins is now rolling out into retail stores.
Founded by married couple, gin fans Catherine and Gary, Big Tree Gin Distillery is located in Victoria state’s Macedon Ranges. The first two liquors released features the New Holland honeyeater and the Tasmanian pepperberry that grows locally.
Local artist Sarah Gabriel has created artwork for each of the products, with four illustrations in the series, showcasing the plants which influenced the flavours and birds which visit the company’s farm at Jack’s Springs.
“Big Tree Gins are created by using the finest ingredients, collecting fresh rainwater from the farm to create a gin that is truly memorable,” the company says in its promotional material.
“Some gin botanicals are grown, and some are sourced off-farm, but where possible Catherine and Gary pick and forage some of the more interesting Australian gin botanicals as locally as possible with the help of their gin-loving botanist.”
The first three in the range are: Elegant Dry, “the classic shout-out to the London dry gin”; Claude Navy Strength, a full-flavoured spirit with a touch of southern sassafras; and Seasonal, an ever-changing gin to reflect the seasons.
