Thanks to designer to the stars Heron Preston, we can all dress like an astronaut – if we can afford US$326 for a t-shirt, that is.
Preston gained the space agency’s permission to use its 1976 logo and styling for a limited edition Fall/Winter Heron Preston x NASA range launched last Friday and on sale from his website and upmarket department stores including Mr Porter, Barney’s New York, Bergdorf Goodman, and Kith NYC.
Preston, 35, who counts celebrities Justin Bieber and Kendall Jenner among his fans, was inspired in his creation by the outer layer of NASA’s spacesuits. The 31-pieceHeron Preston x NASA collection includes t-shirts, baseball hats (priced at $154 and $173) and a $1342 backpack. At the top of the range is a NASA Tech parka jacket priced at $1897.
Earlier this year, Preston dressed a mannequin with early samples of the clothes and sent them into orbit 50km above Earth for a 10-minute short film called Above the Clouds, co-directed by David Laven. The film shows the entire creative process behind the Heron Preston x NASA products. You can watch it here:
