Whether stolen or misplaced, a lost wallet usually requires a major expenditure of time and energy to resolve.
Enter the Volterman Smart Wallet being funded through Indiegogo, and which reached its target within just a few hours.
The wallet contains a GPS tracking system and a camera than can automatically snap a photo of anyone who opens it and email the image to the wallet’s owner. So not only will owners be able to track the wallet down – they will have a useful photo of the thief!
And if the wallet is merely misplaced, and not stolen, the Volterman can be paired with the user’s phone over Bluetooth, so that the phone can act as an alarm (similarly the wallet sends alarm signals if the user leaves the phone behind).
According to trend monitoring website Springwise.com, Volterman’s chief technical officer came up with the idea after his three-year-old daughter hid his wallet behind the stove… he found it only after he spent a month having all the documents reissued.
The Volterman also takes wallet functionality several steps further – it contains a built-in battery charger, which can charge the phone wirelessly, and can itself be charged wirelessly by an optional leather charging pad (as well as by cable), it has 3G connectivity to act as a Wi-Fi hotspot, and in-built RFID protection against data reading and identity theft. It is fully compatible with both iOS and Android and is offered in three styles – bifold, cardholder and travel. The wallets will be available in both Nappa leather and in a vegan (faux leather) option.
Volterman is taking orders through Indiegogo until the end of July 2017, and hopes to begin shipping in December.
