Three years after the launch of the shapely LC Coupe model, a new Lexus LC Convertible concept car is about to be unveiled to the American public.
The open-air roadster, described as “an artful reflection” of the hardtop coupe model, will be on show at the 2019 North American International Auto Show which opens in Detroit on Monday (January 14).
“This concept takes the unmistakable design of the LC coupe and reimagines it as a future convertible,” said Tadao Mori, chief designer of the LC Convertible concept. “It blends all the best aspects of the original coupe with the dynamic design of an open-air convertible.”
“From the rake of the windshield to the smooth contours of the rear decklid that houses the convertible top, every line on the LC Convertible concept was drawn to evoke an emotional response.”
The Lexus LC Convertible styling is also designed to position it as a powerful performance coupe. While Lexus has not yet revealed engine details or performance data, the hardtop coupe model sells in the US with options of a 354hp 3.5 litre V6 engine or a larger 471hp 5.0 litre V8 motor.
The strong exterior lines of the Lexus LC Convertible concept reinforce its sportscar pedigree with short overhangs, 22-inch wheels and a wide stance all reminders of this car’s performance potential.
Inside the concept car, crisp white leather trim abounds with yellow accent stitching.
“A production version of this concept would be exhilarating in many different ways. You would see its dynamic lines as you approach, hear its engine when you started it up and feel everything around you once on the road,” says Mori.
“It would engage the senses in a way that is unique and exciting every time you got behind the wheel.”
