Raiu means ‘thunderstorm’ in Japanese – how appropriate then for the first Limited Edition Subaru WRX model in 15 years to carry the name.
The high-performance 2019 Subaru WRX Raiu will be limited to just 100 units and will only be sold in Canada.
In addition to all the features that make the rally-bred WRX so exciting to drive, the Raiu Edition is based on the WRX Sport-tech RS. What makes it stand apart are dynamic visual and performance enhancements, including STI-branded front lip, side sill and rear side spoilers, and a STI-branded short-throw gear shift lever.
The Subaru WRX Raiu features the Sport-tech RS existing features, including Recaro front seats and Ultrasuede upholstery front and rear, a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system with integrated navigation and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a nine-speaker Harman Kardon stereo system, Jurid front brake pads and red-painted brake calipers at all four corners.
Black interior and exterior accents, 18-inch alloy wheels painted in a gunmetal finish, and an exclusive Cool Grey Khaki exterior colour complete the look.
The Subaru WRX Raiu is powered by a four-cylinder, 2.0-litre turbocharged boxer engine boasting 268 horsepower and 258 lb/ft of torque. It comes with a six-speed manual transmission.
I’ve always loved Subaru’s styling and drivability – its four wheel drive system is second to none (I’ve owned five over the years, including at one time the SVX sports car). At C$40,995, this seems like exceptionally great value!
