Vespa – possibly the world’s most romantic machine on two wheels – is about to launch the Vespa Elettrica.
Yes, as the name suggests, Vespa is going electric!
Vespa’s parent, Italy’s Piaggio Group, says the Vespa Elettrica will be launched first in Europe next month (October) before reaching markets in Asia and the US early next year.
“The price will be in line with the high-end bracket of the Vespa range presently being marketed,” Vespa said somewhat enigmatically.
The new scooter will come in silver only, with seven options for trim colour. It will have a range of about 100km between charges and its lithium-ion battery will take about four hours to fully charge.
And most intriguingly of all… the Vespa Elettrica is not just connectable to a power supply: it will be capable of talking to your smartphone via Bluetooth. Riders will be able to access a digital dashboard, get real-time updates about weather conditions or road hazards ahead, and receive navigational advice.
